Maddy's Guide to Preparing for a 3 Day Shopping Trip in Los Angeles

As you may have already heard, I am heading over to LA this afternoon until friday. I going with my mum to do a bit of sight-seeing, and a lot of shopping! I've already been to LA earlier this year stopping over on our way to and from Aspen so I semi know what to expect. I've been on countless trips like this with my mum, where I have very little time and a lot of ground to cover, so I have had plenty of training. One thing I have learnt is that preparation is key. I think i've spent more time and effort preparing for this trip than anything else this year, well other than my last trip to LA.

So here is my guide to preparing for a 3 day shopping trip in LA:

- Write lists.
A list of all the places you want to go, stores, attractions, restaurants, cafes, etc. Another list of all the things you need to buy, mine consists mostly of just clothing but a few people have told me that iPads and stuff are cheaper over there too. Whatever you're into.

- Figure out where your going.
The main areas I want to go to are, Fairfax Ave, Melrose Ave, La Brea Ave, Hollywood Blvd, Venice Beach and Abbot Kinney Blvd. Then there are a few particular places like the Standard Hotel and the Hollywood sign I want to check out.
But most importantly there are the stores. Fairfax Ave is home to places like Supreme, Dope, the Odd Future store, Diamond Supply, Hundreds.
Melrose Ave is more high end and has all the big designers, I mostly want to go to the Paul Smith, Fred Segal, and Marc by Marc Jacobs stores, and Opening Ceremony and APC are just off the main strip.
There are a couple cool stores on La Brea Ave, Stussy, American Rag, and this store Union that James told me to go to. Then there are all the chain stores but I have a shopping center near my hotel that all of them will be at. Out of Forever 21, H&M, and Zara, I think Zara is the best - it has the coolest stuff and is the cheapest. Ive always had a soft spot for Gap and Oprah loves Gap too. J Crew, Urban Outfitters and American Apparel are always awesome.

- Ask everyone and anyone you know has been what you should do, where you should go. I've found out about heaps of cool stuff that way.

- Transport. Like I said its a big place and its very spread out. On the first day I am just going out close to my hotel. But on the second day were getting a car and starting at Venice Beach(because that is the furthest away) and working our way back to Fairfax, Melrose, Hollywood etc.

- Expect the unexpected. I've left the whole third day free of plans because i've learnt from experience that there are always things you forget about or what to go back to later. So I know ill have plenty to so on the last day.

- Dont forget things like, take extra gig sticks for your camera, pack light(you will need all the suitcase space you can get), print off some maps and directions, PHONE CHARGER, comfortable shoes and your tooth brush.

I know this will probably be no use to anyone but I spent so much time on it I just had to tell someone.
Oh god I still need to pack.
Laters Auckland see you on Friday!
